The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - The Sword of Destiny E3 2014 Trailer

Look at this trailer! Everything about it, every tiny clip edited into this massive but short (as far as game trailers go) trailer works. We have the slow build introducing the world and characters, and once we get past the introductory speech given to Geralt by Tywin Lannister, the trailer launches into a beautiful montage of incredible environments, wonderfully designed monsters, and its all amplified by one of the game's unique original scores.

I loved this trailer so much it made me spend sixty dollars the day I first watched it, I can't think of ANY other game trailer that has had that effect on me. I'm always too cynical about beautiful trailers, I wonder if it is all just editing magic turning a subpar game into an above average 2-minute film. Either that, or I know the game will be great due to it's franchise history or developers, and trailers only serve to confirm that excitement I had already been feeling.

What works most for this trailer is its honesty. No reliance on pre-rendered scenes, or industry standard trailer cuts (trailers all seem to start with multiple fade to blacks, then a base drop in its psuedo dubstep music as the trailer spoils the game's largest and most important set piece). Witcher 3 delivered on everything this preview promises, and that itself is the best part of this trailer.
